Disney's SpectroMagic Parade is Gone. Forever.

Walt Disney World Fans all around the world will be very sad reading the title of this news, but it looks like one of Disney's best nighttime parades may have left us for good. In fact, according to a very well-known poster over at WDWMagic.com, Disney's SpectroMagic parade was just recently completely dismantled, and all that was left from it was recently scrapped. Here is the original post, from WDWMagic user "wdw71fan":

I have the unfortunate duty of reporting the official death of Spectromagic.. There are 6 'trailer style' dumpsters filled with the crushed remains of the Spectromagic Parade units.. I believe at this point the only surviving unit is Chernobog... Which may only be temporary as they are removing equipment from the unit..

I personally witnessed a forklift being used to crush the pile of rubble down into the dumpsters.. Twisted metal and all... I couldn't believe my eyes.. It was all backstage, so no pictures... I couldn't take pictures anyway... it's like taking photos at a funeral.

What does this ultimately mean for the Walt Disney World Resort? Well, first of all, we can say that we have lost a very important piece of the Vacation Kingdom's history. The SpectroMagic parade also had one of the most beautiful soundtracks ever created for a parade. In addition to that, it also looks like we will be "stuck" with Disney's Electrical Parade for a few more years, unless Disney announces a brand-new nighttime parade for next year, in addition to the new Disney's Festival of Fantasy daytime parade (which is debuting next Spring).

Why was it necessary for Disney to get rid of the parade floats? Well, according to some sources, it was in extremely bad conditions, due to the fact that the entire parade was being stored outdoors, under the elements. Day and night. We feel very bitter in saying this, but we will never be able to see SpectroMagic coming back.

Farewell. Maybe one day those million stars will shine again...

  1. It was a fun parade and will be fondly missed. I'm sure in time another parade will be made and we will have new wonderful memories about that one to. As Walt said the parks would never be finished.

  3. As sound as it is (IT IS SAD IT WAS PART OF MY CHILDHOOD) its good in a way so it can make way for a new nighttime parade.

  6. I can't believe it...best parade of all times...the best music!

Main Street Electrical Parade music is a headache!

I hope the rumors are not true!

  7. Spectromagic was something that the Main Street Electrical Parade is not-Majestic. MStEP sounds kinda a bit like today's pop music-Auto-Tuned, techno beats, but hey! Now I know what to do when I get older...Redesign the parade! Yay!

  8. You know, MSEP could always be sent to Disneyland. I know we would be more than happy to have it back on Disneyland's Main Street where it began.

  10. Anonymous (two posts above), I'd be happy to send it back to Disneyland. I think MSEP looks good, but the soundtrack is sorely lacking in comparison. And your post highlights another reason why I preferred SpectroMagic -- unlike so many things at the Magic Kingdom, SpectroMagic was designed AND built for the Orlando park, and it never ran anywhere else.

I'm sure that eventually will get a new, arguably better parade (or at least one that is more technically impressive), but it won't have the personal, private place in my heart, one associated with one of my top three happiest memories.

  11. The Reason MSEP doesnt work to well in MK is it is not sized correctly as it is made for DL while Spectromagic Was made for a fit better in with the Scale of WDW which is much larger.

  12. MSEP was to small for MK Spectro was sized just right.
