Only at Space Shuttle Atlantis can guests come literally nose to nose with an actual space shuttle orbiter that flew in space 33 times and still bears the scars, scorch marks and space dust of its last mission. This Week in Disney History: June 28-July 11
June 29, 1974 - “America Sings” opens at Disneyland Park Get ready for a musical joyride through American history, led by one of the biggest Audio-Animatronic casts ever assembled. Sam the Eagle is your master of ceremonies for this four-act show in Tomorrowland, where animals croon American standards spanning from “Camptown Races” and “Polly Wolly Doodle” in the deep south, through “See You Later Alligator” and “Shake, Rattle and Roll” in modern times. Debuting two years before the country’s bicentennial, the feel good sing-along took place in the former Carousel of Progress theatre, with audiences seated along the outer ring rotating through each show scene. When the show ended in 1988, many of the “America Sings” characters became the cast of Splash Mountain, …

Universal Orlando Resort Purchases Wet 'n Wild Land

This great news broke yesterday evening on Parkscope, and the word has now spread all over the internet. The Universal Orlando Resort has some very important plans in store, and that is nothing new. Since Comcast acquired the Universal Orlando Resort, new rides, attractions, and shows have started popping up all over the place. But now, things are getting even more serious; so serious that should make Disney extremely concerned.
According to the latest Orlando Sentinel article on this subject ("Universal Orlando buys Wet 'n Wild land"), Universal Orlando just "purchased more than 50 acres of land under and around the Wet 'n Wild water park... Universal paid just under $31 million for the property, as implied by its documentary stamp tax payments.
So, what is Universal planning for this parcel of land? Some hint to a new third theme park, others say that is could house a new water park (which would meant that Wet 'n Wild Orlando would close for good), while …

Disney's SpectroMagic Parade is Gone. Forever.

Walt Disney World Fans all around the world will be very sad reading the title of this news, but it looks like one of Disney's best nighttime parades may have left us for good. In fact, according to a very well-known poster over at WDWMagic.com, Disney's SpectroMagic parade was just recently completely dismantled, and all that was left from it was recently scrapped. Here is the original post, from WDWMagic user "wdw71fan": _________________________________________________________________________
I have the unfortunate duty of reporting the official death of Spectromagic.. There are 6 'trailer style' dumpsters filled with the crushed remains of the Spectromagic Parade units.. I believe at this point the only surviving unit is Chernobog... Which may only be temporary as they are removing equipment from the unit..
I personally witnessed a forklift being used to crush the pile of rubble down into the dumpsters.. Twisted metal and all... I couldn't believe my e…

This Week in Disney History: June 21-27

June 22, 1970 - The Walt Disney Archives is founded After Walt Disney’s passing, his brother and Disney chairman Roy O. Islands of Adventure: JP Games Update (PART 1)

Image
While Universal Studios Florida has constantly been receiving new attractions, shows, and rides in the past two years, it seems like Islands of Adventure has been relatively quiet. Other than the new projectors installed in the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man and the new train station, no major project is seemingly taking shape in the park. Or so we think... Strong rumors say that a major Jurassic Park expansion is planned to open in the park by the time the fourth Jurassic Park movie comes out (2015). Before moving on in that direction, though, Universal is said to be installing some new themed games in the rarely-used extended queue area for the Jurassic Park River Adventure Ride. We will check out that area later on in this same update. In the meantime, let's start:

MORE Fun Facts from Disney's Past! (June 14-20)

Image
Today we have a special edition of our weekly feature! In fact, we already posted some fun facts from Disney's archives a few days ago, but we have even more tidbits to share with you this week. We hope you will enjoy this: _________________________________________________________________________
This Week in Disney History: June 14-20
June 19, 1998 - Walt Disney Pictures releases “Mulan” When the Huns invade China, the emperor decrees that all families must send one man to join the army. Not wanting her ailing father to go, the young Fa Mulan disguises herself as a man and sneaks away to fight in his place. When her family learns of her departure, they ask their ancestors for her protection, which arrives in the form of the family’s Great Stone Dragon - the diminutive, wise-cracking Mushu. With help from her travel-sized companion and her fellow soldiers, Mulan will bring honor to her family, and find the romance that she doubted she ever would. “Mulan” was the first film produced…

"Despicable Delights" Restaurant Coming to Universal?

Universal Studios Florida presented a completely reimagined attraction themed after the very successful "Despicable Me" animated movie back in 2012. A similar attraction will open at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2014, albeit with some minor differences. First of all, the theater will be bigger, the reason behind this being the fact that this attraction will replace Terminator 2:3D (which is still open here in Florida). In addition to that, a small water play area will also open next to this new attraction, and is expected to be named "Super Silly Fun Land" (we were among the first to discover the new trademark). Now we have a few more information to add.

A few days ago, we noticed that another new trademark was filed by Universal. It is "Despicable Delights," and it definitely looks like it is referring to something new related to the theme parks. Here are more details:

This Week in Disney History: June 14-20

June 15, 1967 - Club 33 opens at Disneyland Park
At 33 Royal Street in the heart of New Orleans Square, a private establishment steeped in lore and legend is hidden in plain sight. Built as an exclusive dining club where Walt Disney could entertain Disneyland investors and dignitaries, Walt did not live to see its opening, but his touch can be felt throughout. The glass elevator in the lobby was modeled precisely after one he saw on a trip to Paris; he picked out the antique furniture and décor along with wife Lillian, complimented by movie memorabilia from "The Happiest Millionaire" and "Mary Poppins." The only way to dine at Club 3…

Summer Nights at SeaWorld Orlando Start June 22

Just a few more days, and SeaWorld Orlando's Summer Nights event will return, albeit with a few differences. Gone is the beautiful "Reflections" fireworks show, for example, which is being replaced by some pyrotechnic effects at the end of the last Shamu Rocks show of the night. This completely confirms the rumor that one of our Readers shared with us months ago. That being said, here you are some more information regarding this year's event, which will undoubtedly still be great due to the additional shows planned every night: _________________________________________________________________________

Electric Buses Testing at the Walt Disney World Resort

Just a quick advisory regarding new ways of transportation being tested around the Walt Disney World Resort:

Beginning in June through early July 2013, Walt Disney World Transportation is scheduled to begin testing one all-electric bus. During the test period, the all-electric bus will run on the Guest route at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground (by the way, this all-electric bus is not a Disney-owned vehicle). The bus model involved in this test is quieter than the rest of the fleet, but it still generates some noise while travelling.

Thank you for taking notice of this. We look forward to a "greener" future at the Walt Disney World Resort!
