WDW: Possible D23 Expo Announcements (2013)

Our Anonymous Reader is back with some more exciting insider information about the possible announcements that may be made during this year's D23 Expo that will take place in California in August. Here is the entire comment he posted on our home page a few minutes ago (NOTE: The following are all RUMORS that may or may NOT happen, as plans can change at any time. Please, do NOT take these as done deals, as all will be officially revealed very soon by the Walt Disney World Resort):
_________________________________________________________________________

It's me again...You know the one who posted the WDW entertainment news/rumors. Anyhow, quite a few juicy rumors have come up in the past few days and I'd like to clear some up and figured I'd post here since part of what I'm going to discuss involves a bigger presence of Tangled.

Now, as any Disney Fanboi would have marked on his/her calendar  the grandaddy of em all (D23 Expo) is rapidly approaching and that is when many exciting projects/announcements are made available to the general public be it the studios/P&R/etc. I'm just gonna focus on what you can expect to hear at D23 in regards to WDW. First, actual new projects will be announced at this event unlike the last one.

The park that will be in the spotlight the most will be DHS. Burbank issued the Studios a $500 million check earlier this year and what you will hear at D23 will be the following for DHS (Disney's Hollywood Studios):
  • Version of Cars Land coming to DHS in 2018 which will be located in the backlot area of the Streets of America. This Cars Land will be different then the one from DCA in that the E for this area will NOT be RSR or a clone of it. However, it will be an E-Ticket attraction of RSR quality. Also, expect to see this area in general have Radiator Springs themed to what it looked like in Cars 2. Everything else from the DCA Carsland except Luigi's will be present in this land.
  • More DHS news that will be announced at D23: Beauty and the Beast stage show will go bye bye and be home to a new musical stage show of The Princess and The Frog. Also the Little Mermaid stage show in the Animation Courtyard will be leaving and will be housed to the long rumored Tangled stage show. Me personally, I would like to see PATF be in TLM building and Tangled be where BATB is, but what can you do.
  • Expect to see the Sorcerer's Hat in front of the Great Movie ride to come down towards the latter end of this year (I'm hearing this November before Thanksgiving). This won't be announced at D23
  • Great Movie Ride's refurb has been scaled back and won't be as extensive as what's been thrown around there on the internet. Should be for three weeks sometime beginning next year with the only noticeable change coming to the Finale of the ride. Won't be announced at D23.
Now to DAK (Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park):
  • At D23, we will hear some more details on the "Avatar: James Cameron's World of Pandora at Disney's Animal Kingdom Park". We should get a confirmation that the E ticket for this area will be a flight simulator attraction titled "Flight of Passage" which will be similar to Soarin, BUT NOT IDENTICAL TO SOARIN' NOR SOARIN 2.0. Staggs/Vaughn also will probably talk about the C-Ticket coming to this area. They should have a decision by D23 as to whether go with the boat ride or the walk through attraction. There will be a merchandise shop at the exit of the E-Ticket and there will also be an Table Service restaurant where Rainforest cafe is located. Sadly, there will be no nighttime water show nor a nighttime parade as those got axed just recently. I can say that the AVATAR area at night will blow your minds away and will give folks a reason just to come to the AK in the evening.
  • They'll finally tell folks there that Festival of the Lion King will move to Africa in a new theater behind Tusker House to make room for this Avatar project even though we've known this for quite a while, just without a confirmation to the public from Disney.
  • There really won't be any huge MK and EPCOT news other than SDMT progress and Fairytale Hall progress much like you saw at Monstrous Summer press event.
One more thing that should be announced for WDW: DVC's are coming to the Polynesian Resort. If you want more information on this development visit: http://www.tikimanpages.com/tiki/news/222-dvc-starting-in-2013

Most of these rumors sound legit, but we are quite skeptical about one of them (not that we are doubting our Reader, of course. We are just making some personal considerations here). Our Reader said that the Cars Land clone would include a different ride, not a direct clone of Radiator Spring Racers, the popular dark-ride found in the California version of Cars Land. That would defeat the purpose of having a clone of the land, in our opinion, as it would not save a lot of money to Walt Disney World. Why not creating an entire new land at this point? Cars is not a really popular franchise. Star Wars is. Why would they choose Cars over that? Draw your conclusions.

A huge "Thank you!" to our Reader for sharing these very interesting rumors with us!

  1. I don't get the first point.
It will everything but NOT RSR and NOT Luigi's. So only the Mater kiddy ride an the shops and restaurants stays. Only some e-ticket ride not announced yet will be added.
All they get is 500 million and from that money they need to remove the hat and put down two quality shows and the cars land?
Not sure if this is what is needed although it's great these 2 shows finally get axed and the hat is killed of.

  2. Latest rumor is Disneyland's Indiana Jones ride will be finally brought to Disney World. We can only hope.

  3. I like the Sorcerer's Hat. It's like the round ball at Epcot, or the Castle at Magic Kingdom, or the tree at Animal Kingdom. I like it there.

  4. Anonymous: Have you seen what it looked like before the hat was there?

  5. Im happy and sad and mad all at the same time. First off 500 million might sound like alot, but in reality it is not. DHS needs more help than just 2 new princess shows! And a Carsland version, but not a carsland version is just stupid. Make an original Star Wars Land. Happy GBM ride is getting some help, BUT NOT Enough!
Animal Kingdom Let Me Down Again. No new nighttime show, no new parade, and now no water ride. Scrap Avatarland, and add some version of Mystic Manor!
SAD TO SEE EPCOT PUSHED ASIDE AGAIN!
Like come on Disney, do you hate EPCOT or something!

  6. Like Luke Said I'm Disappointed!
First Lets Start With Epcot Not Getting Anything New!
Epcot needs some TLC, and redo of Test Track isn't helping!
    Second Animal Kingdom!
Really thought a Avatar dark ride would be cool, but no, you do an attraction we basically have!
    Finally DHS!
The Studios needs a 1.1 billion dollar expansion too. Monster's Inc Ride
    Star Wars Land
Complete Redo of Great Big Movie Ride
And A New Dark Ride, Maybe Mystic Manor Technology only with Roger Rabbit on Sunset Blv.
I would ALSO LOVE TO SEE AN INDIANA JONES RIDE. but nothing you ever seen before, a saw a concept for a indy mine cart ride. Looks thrilling and cool!

  7. Disney goes on the cheap again with shows, meet n greets and lackluster upgrades. Really, the only real money they spend is on the DVC resorts. They are turning into a timeshare scam. Universal cranks out Transformers, a new Simpsons land, Despicable Me and Harry Potter and Disney gets a half ass stage show of the Tangled? Why did they buy the rights to Marvel and Star Wars anyhow?

  9. I've also heard that the Indiana Jones ride is going to be added somewhere in the studios...maybe over the land of echo lake and the sounds dangerous and idol studios, or on the open land where the beauty and the beast show is, or by the backlot. Indy needs to come to Florida!!!!

  10. I think a lot Disney Fans would be happier just with Mystic Manor, instead of a whole land nobody wants!

  11. Team Disney Orlando!
STOP PUTTING IN SHOWS AND DOING EVERYTHING HALF-GRASS(not gonna swear)
If this was Team Disney Anaheim They Would Completely redo the studios so when you walked in the net time you be"Damn am I really in Disney Hollywood Studios"

    ReplyDelete
  12. What can I say Disney, if you don't up your game, Universal is going to beat you! We need more rides, not new shows!

  13. I can't help but roll my eyes and blow my top at most of the stupid, overly-negative, mean-spirited, venom-spewing comments that have been posted here. >:(

  14. Ditto, Philip.
I'm glad that The Great Movie Ride will be getting some TLC and that the removal of the Sorcerer's Hat will return Hollywood Boulevard to its former glory. In regards to the rest of the rumored ideas for Disney's Hollywood Studios, I think there are much better concepts floating out there, including the Monsters Inc. rollercoaster, a revamped Muppet*Vision 3D, a new Indiana Jones attraction, some much needed cohesions in theming, a new Roger Rabbit dark ride (built in both the empty lot AND the space where the current Beauty and the Beast show building is), and of course; a Star Wars land. If there's anything out in the universe that's even bigger than Potter, it's Skywalker. In fact, if Disney were to greenlight a Star Wars land, they could leverage it, along with Avatar Land, New Fantasyland and Disney Springs as an effective answer to its competitors, without having to wave the white flag by lazily duplicating Cars Land.

  15. @Philip: I know what you mean, and I understand how you feel. We do think that hearing different opinions is good though. The important thing is that the conversation is always respectful and clean.

  16. I still want the rumored incredibles e ticket instead of Carsland

    ReplyDelete
  17. Animal Kingdom Needs Mystic Manor, not Avatarland!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Can't wait for that frog prince show, that's me want to go to DHS for sure. My next vacation I going here and skipping Universal. Transformers and Harry Potter is so boring.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Do you guys that want Mystic manor realize its about a big hunter killing animals and avatar is about conservation and living in harmony with nature

    ReplyDelete
  20. No Anonymous, Mystic Manor is not about a big hunter killing animals. Please get you facts right before you go on the net.
It's about an adventurer who collect artefacts from all over the world. Please google it up.

I'm glad about the new shows. I think all shows in DHS are tired and see at least 2 of them changed is just ok and about time.
But it's also beyond me that nothing is done with the Star Wars license. It's the only Potter killer if done right.
Still, would love to see a new e-ticket ride build, lets hope it's better then Soarin and Mission Space or "broken Yeti mountain".

    ReplyDelete
  21. So he s not a big game hunter

    ReplyDelete
  22. theres no such thing a a potter killer

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't believe any of these rumors. I know A lot of people don't like the Sorcerer's Hat but it has become a park Icon, they are not just going to take a park Icon.

  24. Sammy-Kay -
Several years ago (during the 20th anniv of DHS - if I remember correctly)there was a Q&A session with several high level Imagineers and Disney execs and one of them said then that the hat would eventually go. There was a round of applause from the audience. While I like the Hat, I don't like it in its current location as I loved walking up that main drag and seeing the GMR building. The Hat in its current location just ruins the 30's Hollywood ambience. It would be great in front of DHS maybe over bag check area or where they put the Christmas tree. I actually liked it when it opened and they used the water tower as the icon. That was when backlot tour was a big deal and you got to tour actual sound stages while they filmed, walking over the productions on the catwalk, etc. Debbie

  25. -CARSLAND: why not just create a new land not based on Cars, especially if they are going to put all the money into developing a new ride. What does a huge Arizona town have to do with Hollywood or movie studios? Monsters Inc. is highly underrepresented in the parks and extremely popular, especially with the new movie coming out. If they built Monstropolis instead I am sure it would be easily as popular as Carsland in CA and it would bridge the link between Pixar Place and Streets of America. Incredibles too could also be represented. Also bring over the Ratatouille ride being built in Paris and place it next to Toy Story. There are better options than this.

    - PRINCESS & FROG / TANGLED: it seems weird to me. Thought it would make more sense for Princess to be in the Mermaid theater since the story would be better suited for puppets like Mermaid made use of and for Tangled to be in Theater of the Stars since it was more popular

-SORCERER'S HAT: I think looking at Buena Vista Street made them realize that Hollywood Boulevard was exactly the same and by having the period theater at the end it really adds to the street better.

-AVATAR: what is the name going to be? They should have created a new type of ride system.

  26. What About Epcot?!

    ReplyDelete
  27. -sigh- Still no love for Imagination?

    ReplyDelete
  28. So is anything going in the old Sounds Dangerous building? I know they use it now for the Jedi Training but there is no theming there. Get rid of Idol and put Indiana Jones there.
Totally agree that PATF should be in the TLM building and Tangled goes in the Theatre of the Stars.
I "like" the idea of a Cars 2 Radiator Springs. That's where they had the final race in the movie so maybe this is what it is or a version of all the races around the world. Agree that Carsland should stay in DCA and DHS could have received Monstropolis.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Why Carsland??!! It makes no sense. Keep Carsland in Cali it's perfect there. If Disney really wants to make money StarWars is the way to go. DHS kinda sucks accept for rockin roller coaster and tower of terror. I'm looking forward to avatar land but Star Wars land will blow Harry potter out of the park. They have the room they just need to get rid of those useless buildings. Come on Disney universal starting to have more imagination then you so call imagineers have. Plus keep the princess out of DHS and keep them in fantasy land :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Why more princesses? Why not a unique show about all Disney animation? How about Animagique or Mickey and the Magical Map?

    ReplyDelete
  31. You can tell on this board who sniffs pixxy dust, who dank the goofy coo-laid. Come on now, really, more pathic shows, unimpressive rehabs and DVC resorts. He's an idea, how about an E TICKET RIDE. One that doesn't have a fairy, a princess, or a show. I mean why did they even buy the rights to Star Wars and Marvel. Yet even the Muppets.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes to a Tangles show, but a big 'Bo Thanks' to Princess and the Frog replacing 'Beauty and the Beast.' BATB has wonderfully memorable songs, and is not just another Disney princess film, but one of the most acclaimed animated movie of all time. I've seen/ heard TPATF quite a few times, thanks to my daughters having both the DVD and the video game, but can't recall a single tune from it. I'd rather see Tarzan Rocks come back than this. Well...maybe not.

  33. I know everyone likes the idea of bringing Indiana Jones over from Disneyland, but the fact is WDW already has the Indiana Jones ride. It's just at a different theme park and themed to dinosaurs. If I recall it even has the same ride track, to save some money so DIsney wouldn't have to produce a new ride program for the vehicles.

Good riddance to the Sorcerer's Hat, Hollywood Boulevard used to produce a magical Main Street feeling when the Theatre was visible from the entrance.

    ReplyDelete
  34. As part of the deal with Marvel there not allowed to build any attractions or have any shows to the deal at Universal ends. I think they really brought the rights to Marvel,Star Wars and the muppets so they can make lots of movies and profits.

    ReplyDelete
  35. DHS needs something far more original than Carsland. Besides it makes no sense to have a pixar-film themed land in a park where they already have a designated area for all things Pixar. My other problem with a CL in DHS is that the whole purpose of CL was to turn DCA into a one-of-a-kind destination. Cloning it diminishes the land's intended purpose.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Seriously? Clone a Pixar land already in another park? Did they forget that they just bought Star Wars?

Something is seriously in the Florida water that the TDO suits are drinking.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I do not get when fans always disparage TDO. They are not the ones who write the major checks of choose the major projects. I thought that was the responsibility of the Walt Disney Company headquartered in Burbnak. TDA and TDO just operate and coordinate the operations of the parks. They do not have the power to spend a billion dollars.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Last Anonymous:
Yea, but they pick the projects. Not how much they cost, but how well they can work with the money

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sorry, Jason, but the last Anonymous is absolutely correct!

  40. From what I have heard all of the space of Idol and the back lane by ABC will be built into a new dark E-Ticket ride. the hat will be above this building somehow and it will be part of a very well done stage. The food court by Star Tours is going down and I strongly belive that entrance is getting closed or will have a bypass over in on almost ground level since the road can go under. That land is getting cleared, expect great things for it. EPCOT will get lots of love soon, let things fall in place. Tomorrowland is the next BIG thing to get worked on. Nothing is a Potter killer but it does not need to be killed. We just need to do what we do best and Imagineer. I know TDO has been doing a terrible job so far with the last few "updates" (fantasyland):(
