Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new official Disney Princess!

Merida, the heroine from the Disney●Pixar film, “Brave,” was officially welcomed into Disney royalty earlier today in a ceremony held at Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park.

Presiding over the ceremony was Gymnastics gold medalist Gabby Douglas, and of course, our Disney Princesses: Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana and Rapunzel, were in attendance.

  1. I won't let my kids watch this movie. She was involved with witchcraft and turned her mother into an animal. This is not what I consider Disney Princess material and not sure why you cover it.

  2. It's a Disney website that they run, and this is Disney related. That's why they can cover it. Just because your morals are out in left field, it doesn't mean others can't enjoy it.

  4. A) Most Disney princesses have been involved with magic of some kind, from Snow White's apple to Ariel and Ursula.

    B) More of an issue...how is Pocahontas a princess? Daughter of a minor chief <> royal title. At least Merida's father was acknowledged as being higher than the other Scottish lords.

  5. @first Anonymous: You know, we have never seen the movie nor read anything about the backstory of it, but that sounds like a very unusual story... Are you sure about that? I wouldn't think Disney would allow Merida to become a Princess after having transformed her mother into an animal. It just doesn't sound right.

  7. The magic in Merida's story is no different than the poisoned apple in Snow White or the fairy godmothers in Cinderella. The twisted wish fulfillment is almost identical to Aladdin's. Everyone untwist their undies please.

Can we please enter the 21st. century and let it go. Have you never read fairy tales or fables to your children? You are a Disney supporter, but you have a problem with this movie? Most of the characters from these movies have magic or talking animals. Get over it!
