Next-Gen: MagicBand Testing Continues at DAK

As part of the continuous testing process that is currently being done for the new MyMagic+ project, select Guests will be able to try the new "Magic Bands" across the Walt Disney World Resort in the next few days.

During this time, test participants will be actually wearing and using MagicBands. The MagicBands will be used to enter the hotel room, Disney Parks, as a form of payment, and for FastPass+ redemption. This new test will take place April 12-14, 2013. Participants will be be staying at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and will test MyMagic+ components at the resort and at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park during this time. For this test, at Disney's Animal Kingdom FastPass+ will be offered to the Guests participating in the test at all locations where FASTPASS tickets are currently available as well as It's Tough to be a Bug. In addition to that, MagicBands will be used at all merchandise and food and beverage locations, except for table service restaurants.

We will continue to keep you up-to-date on the development of Disney's Next-Generation Project. Stay tuned.

  1. Cannot wait for the bands. Saw them when I exchanged my AP last weekend, would be really nice if they get delivered to AP Holders in those boxes.

  2. This just made me think, how are they going to go to an all Magic Band system at Table Service? Portable Readers that take your dining credit off, or your payment info that is stored in the band?

And then have to go somewhere to get your receipt?

  3. I'm sure Disney can get Portable readers that printout a receipt for you right at the table. The Magic Band is essentially a wearable RFID room key with your park passes and room charge info on it. Not much different than what you can get now with a card. I mean the Red Lobsters here in Miami use them all the time on busy nights. Plus they were using a type of portable card machines during the Food and Wine Festival when the lines would get long.
