We’re highlighting one great movie per day that’s currently playing on Disney Family Movies. (...) It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights, it’s time to meet the Muppets… in London! In 1981’s all singing, all-action, all-Muppet magic, The Great Muppet Caper

The sequel to the Muppet’s first silver screen adventure The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper takes the whole gang— Kermit, Fozzie, Gonzo and the entire Electric Mayhem band— overseas to London, as reporters who interview the rich victim of jewel thieves… and meet one of their own, Miss Piggy!

The only Muppet movie ever directed by Muppet maestro Jim Henson, The Great Muppet Caper continues the notable Muppet tradition of bold-faced guest stars, including veddy, veddy British funny folks John Cleese and Peter Ustinov! Co-starring the great Charles Grodin (Midnight Run) and the lovely dame Diana Rigg (television’s The Avengers), the film introduced more memorable Muppet music Hey, A Movie!, Happiness Hotel, and The First Time It Happens (nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Song). (To check in early to the Happiness Hotel, please click here)

A bit of Muppet movie trivia:

* This is the first time Gonzo is officially called a ‘whatever’

* The film was shot entirely on location in merry old England

* The final scene— the famous scene in which all the Muppets ride bicycles together!— was accomplished by all the Muppets being pulled on their bicycles by a group of puppeteers, including Jim Henson’s then 19 year old son Brian Henson— now the chairman of The Jim Henson Company
