News on Fun Spot America's New Wooden Coaster

As it was announced a few months ago, the plans for the Fun Spot America expansion include a new wooden coaster, which was originally intended to be very family-friendly (meaning that it would have been very similar to LEGOLAND Florida's Coastersaurus). Just yesterday, though, Fun Spot's officials contacted us and gave us some new, interesting information... Here you are the e-mail (including the renderings they sent us):

Dear Blogger,

In the past you have been kind enough to help Fun Spot get the word out about a number of different events or new attractions we have. We wanted to thank you by providing you information about one of our new roller coasters before it becomes public. Initially, the wooden (with steel supports0 coaster that GCI was building for us was going to be "family Friendly' and unique to Central Florida because of it's wooden ride. However, as finances have permitted, we can develop a more challenging and thrilling coaster experience than we first planned on.

Below are some details about the new coaster and attached are 4 drawings of what GCI is presently building. This stills fits in with the Master Plan approved in March by the City Of Orlando. This coaster will be part of Rebranding to Fun Spot America, with a Vekoma steel suspension coaster and a 250 foot SkyCoaster, plus other family themed rides. The Grand Reopening will take place in February or (if delayed) March of 2013. This wood coaster will be called "White Lightning" and on clear night, you will see Moon shine off the steel struts. White Lighting will run parallel to two streets; Grand National and Touchstone.

Length = 2000ft
Height = 75ft
Max Speed = 48mph
Max drop = 58degress (world record coined "Claire Curve")
Max bank angle = 90degrees (world record coined "Ariel Dive")
Air time moments = apprx 18
Ride length = apprx 1:15min

Rumored by International Coaster Experts to become "the BEST coaster ride in Central Florida, maybe the world!!!" Life is Great!!! When your coaster fun is HUGE-ER!!!

As you may have noticed, the project has become much bigger that what was originally planned, and that is without a doubt a great news! Also, the coaster finally got an official name, "White Lightning."

Here you are now some of the new renderings we received (All renderings are subjects to the copyright of Fun Spot Attractions, Inc. and Great Coasters International. All rights reserved.):

Let's now take a look at the coaster by taking a look at those same photos but on a slightly bigger scale (they've been cropped to appear bigger on your screen, and the white background has been removed):

The surprising thing is that this great new coaster is scheduled to open in February 2013!

What do you think? Are you excited to see such a huge wooden coaster coming to Orlando? Share your thoughts and comments with us. We love hearing your opinions! A big thank you to Fun Spot for sending us these great drawings and for sharing with us these new information!

  3. Orlando needs a "woodie". Gwazi is the only wooden roller coaster of note in Florida since the Dania Beach Hurricane closed and Legoland ripped down starliner (coastersaurus / triple hurricane is fun but not in the big thrill category)

    I'm particularly interested in the 90 degrees max bank angle which blows previous records out of the window if truly achieved - and gci have a deserved reputation for setting new standards in wooden coaster design and manufacture.

    Even more exciting is an expected opening of Feb / March 2013 - They are gonna have to really so some to acheive that - but it looks like it'll be up and running before i'm next in Orlando!
