The Disney Look... to the Past! February 17-23

Hello, and welcome to the latest edition of "The Disney Look... to the Past!" Enjoy:

This Week in Disney History: February 17-23

Feb. 17, 1998 Groundbreaking for Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios You've scored a tour of G-Force Records to visit the legendary rock band Aerosmith. But just as you arrive, their agent shoos the band out of the recording studio — they've got a concert to get to! Don't worry; Steven Tyler and Joe Perry wouldn't leave their fans hanging. They’re giving you a lift to the show in a super-stretch limo, and this is no ordinary ride. It revs from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3 seconds, twisting through three inversions while zipping by L.A. landmarks like Beverly Hills and the Hollywood sign. You get to the concert, and the band gives you a knowing wink from onstage. Another ride in that limo? Wait a minute; we love that idea. Aer…

The interior of the Times Guide (not shown here) still features the parade route (which is still the same).
It looks like there is a lot to see today (and tomorrow!) There will be a lot of additional entertainment offering today (not shown on the Times Guide), and this can certainly keep any Disney theme park fan occupied for more than 24 hours! By the way, the park will continue to be open until tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. Then, the park will briefly close and reopen on March 1st (tomorrow) at 9:00 a.m. That's a mere three hours later!

Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue: 9:30 Shows Advisory

Please, be aware of the following advisory for today and tomorrow evening: _________________________________________________________________________
Disney's Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue:
9:30 p.m. Shows Cancelled for February 27 and 28, 2012
Please be advised that the 9:30 p.m. shows of the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue have been cancelled for Monday and Tuesday, February 27 and 28, 2012. The 5:00 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. shows will go on as usual.

This cancellation is not due to weather, as the brief cold front has now moved away from the area. It is more likely that the number of guests that made a reservation to attend the dinner-show at that time was too low.

Wonders of Life Pavilion Removed from Custom Maps

Have you ever had the opportunity of visiting the old "Wonders of Life" pavilion when it was open? If you did so, consider yourself very lucky. That pavilion has been used as the Festival Center for many years now, and even though it not open anymore as an attraction, the building itself is still featured in the park maps around the Walt Disney World Resort. Just recently, though, the entire pavilion has been completely removed from the customized maps that guests can create at home (you have to be logged-in to use this service)...
This is an older customized map, where the Wonders of Life pavilion (the orange structure) was still visible:

Habit Heroes Closes to "Improve the Experience"

What? Didn't this Innoventions exhibit just open? Indeed. But it looks like some people did not appreciate the way the attraction handled the subject of being healthy. Take a look at this surprising advisory: _________________________________________________________________________
Epcot: Habit Heroes Attraction in Innoventions
Habit Heroes, an attraction dedicated to conveying a positive message about healthy lifestyles in a fun and empowering way, has been operating in a soft opening period. The soft open phase gave us a chance to collect Guest feedback and test and adjust the attraction prior to its opening. To work on further improving and refining the experience, we’ve decided to close the attraction for the time being and look forward to officially re-opening it soon. At the moment we do not have a specific timetable for the formal opening of the attraction. _________________________________________________________________________

Off-Topic: New York 9/11 Memorial Site Construction

Today we have a special photo-report from our reader, Scott, who keeps us up-to-date with the work currently being done in the site formerly occupied by the Twin Towers, which were both completely destroyed during that infamous and disastrous terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. Let's take a look: _________________________________________________________________________
Hello again! Here it is, a nice a little photo update from downtown New York City!
We start off with a view from the highway, right before going into the tunnel that leads into Manhattan. It's nice to finally see the city back up on its "feet". We had to wait for more than 10 years for a building to pop up in that area. The building is currently at about 94 floors, with 10 more to go. At the top will be an observation deck as well. Once completed with the antenna, Tower 1 will be the new tallest building in  the country:

Disney's Art of Animation Resort - Marquee Installed

The Disney Parks Blog recently shared a nice news regarding Walt Disney World's newest resort hotel, Disney's Art of Animation Resort, which will open in phases starting from May 2012. Take a look at this post, as seen on the official Disney Parks Blog:

A Marquee Milestone at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort at Walt Disney World Resort
I’m happy to start off the week by sharing a fun update on Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.
Last week, Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) put the finishing touches on the new resort’s marquee. Measuring in at 46 feet, six inches, the resort’s sign now holds the record as the largest freestanding marquee at Walt Disney World Resort. (Incidentally, it’s 18 inches taller than the famous “HOLLYWOOD” sign in Los Angeles, Calif.).

The photo [seen on the Disney Parks Blog], supplied by WDI, shows three layers of development the marquee went through in its creation – from digital design, to model, to full-scale installation. Disney’s Art of Animation R…

Thank you for continuing to read this new update. Let's continue our tour of Future World:

New Walt Disney Company Trademarks Applications

The Walt Disney Company  recently filed quite a few applications for new, interesting trademarks (some on behalf of the Walt Disney World Resort), all of which seem to be referring to some kind of in-park personal experience. Here you are some of the trademarks: MAGICBANDDISNEY KUDOS*MY STORY MAKER*MY MEMORY MAKER*MY DREAM MAKER*MYMAGIC+*PERSONAL MAGIC*MY DISNEY EXPERIENCE* All trademarks with an asterisk (*) have been filed under the "theme parks" or "entertainment services" tag.
As you can see, it looks like one or more of these names may be considered for the new "X-Pass" that is rumored to be debuting in the next few months. It would be a special kind of FASTPASS that Disney Resorts guests would be able to reserve... even before leaving their home.
Be aware that this is purely speculation, as nothing has been officially confirmed by the Walt Disney Company.

Fantasyland Update from the Contemporary Resort

Good afternoon! Today we want to share with you a few photos of the work being done in the new Fantasyland area, taken from the top of the Contemporary Resort (which provides some very nice views of the park and of the surrounding areas!). Confirmed: FASTPASS Return Time Enforced

The rumor about changes coming to the FASTPASS service (which was floating around in many other Disney-focused websites and blogs) has finally been confirmed by the Walt Disney World Resort.
Indeed, starting from Wednesday, March 7, 2012 all guests will be expected to return within the return time window that is specified on the FASTPASS ticket that they received. This means that if a guest received a ticket that states "Return Between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m." they will have to come to the attraction and use their Fastpass only between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Late arrivals will NOT be honored any longer.
There are, of course, some exceptions. Guests that arrive either 5 minutes in advance or up to 15 minutes later will still be able to use the FASTPASS queue. Late FASPASSes will also continue to be honored in case of an attraction downtime, a delay in meal service or personal emergency. Disney has stated that the reason of this change was to give guests "the opportunity…

Downtown Disney News: Major Rainforest Cafe' Rehab

The entire Downtown Disney district is currently receiving an enormous rehab that covers almost very single restaurant and retail store in all the three areas (West Side, Pleasure Island, and the Marketplace). There's one particular place that will receive a very, very interesting refurbishment that will entirely change the look of the area. We are talking about the Rainforest cafe', one of the most popular eateries of Downtown Disney.
Indeed, the restaurant's themed facade will be greatly improved. The volcano will look much more realistic, and will include some very realistic lava! It will also have some more water features, along with a new bar, that will aptly be called "Lava Lounge."
Here you are some photos of the current status of the work, along with an in-depth look at the artwork that depicts the future look of the restaurant:
