Magic Kingdom Update - Big Thunder Rehab (Part 2)

Welcome to part 2 of this new Magic Kingdom update (PART 1 can be found here).

Now, let's take a look at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad from the Riverboat, like we promised:

There's certainly a lot of scaffolding around the track:

The track will soon receive new wooden boards:

Big Thunder Mountain is without any doubt one of the best attractions of the park, so we are glad it is receiving some attention:

More work being done on the themed buildings around the attraction:

I would love to be able to eat a sandwich on the rock formation of Big Thunder!:

But, let's take also the Train to see what they are doing to the rest of the ride, including one of the lift-hills:

There's even more to see here:

And that is all. Let's all thank this guy for allowing us to take those photos:

Some more work being done around Frontierland:

The ugly light fixture near Donald's meet-and-greet is finally being hidden by the trees growing around it:

Quiet afternoon:

Moving on to Tomorrowland, we found an incredibly busy highway:

Some minor work is being done near the Merchant of Venus shop:

Going in one of the shops of the park, we found this great t-shirt:

It looks really cool:

Time to get back:

Work on the new bus booths has not started yet:

And now, as a bonus, here you are a look at the status of the Grand Floridian Expansion:

Some panoramic photos (you can view many more panoramic photos here):

And we conclude with a look at an airship that has been around O-Town for the last few days:

And that is all. Thank you very much for reading!

  1. Come in pay $70 a ticket to come to Tarp Kingdom to see all the Fancy Taros and closed atractions.

  2. @Anon - Without any tarps WDW would be in horrible condition. I for one am extremely glad to see all the work going into sprucing up MK, and the fact that they aren't JUST tarps, they're themed scrims makes it a bit cooler.
I hope that Splash Mtn. also gets an extensive refurb in the near future, the poor ride rarely works 100%

I agree with Imagineer87. Without the extensive rehabs, the park would be in shambles. I'm fine with paying money and seeing the park covered up, knowing that its receiving some TLC, instead of it falling apart. I hope that more of the park undergoes refurbishments and completes them, just in time for the new Fantasyland Expansion
opening. Then...the park will be absolutely stunning :)

  4. Thunder Mountain is my all-time fav. I hope they don't change it too much!

  5. Too much work going on at once - they should stagger it, or reduce the ticket price for people visiting now.

  6. WDW is always doing preventative maint. especially after the holidays. If they were not adding on, what you see is buisness as usual. BTW as for the cost it is $90 to get into the MK. When you compare that to other much smaller parks it is pretty good. Lego land is $70. Universal is $85 for Studios or Island of Asventure.

  7. Just be glad that they don't do this much during summer/the holidays people! If Disney wouldn't do this, you would be complaining that the park is looking run down or old...like some other US parks. Disney is open year round, like most parks in the US warm states, and they don't have a "winter break" to refurbish everything like some other theme parks. Disney is more than a theme park, if you don't like it...don't go!

I agree...Splash Mountain needs major updating! (my fav. MK attraction)

  8. Thunder Mountain(WDW) has a lot of turns and is a bigger version of Disneyland's because Disneyland didn't have enough room for a big version. Although I like Disneyland's better because it has more drops, and air time. I hope out Thunder Mountain will be like that!]
Also to add on the "traps talk" you need to keep on Plussing things like what Walt Disney said

  9. The ride is nearly the same in both parks, just mirrored. There is an extra 109 feet of track, and 5 seconds at WDW according to Wikipedia. It's sure not "bigger" like Mansion is here, or Pirates is there. I ride them both fairly frequently, often 3-4 days apart and sure don't notice any difference in the overall ride feel between them.

  10. Themed tarps are still tarps. The park looks like crap. They never have done this before. Some people standards are obviously lower than others. The park has had rehabs before but this is going waaaaaayyy to far. It's really a joke.

  11. I'd really take these complainers' opinions more seriously if any of them ever mentioned going to the park. Obviously, the updates are going to be tarp heavy. That's what we're here to see!
I've been to Magic Kingdom probably 20 times in the last six months and the tarps don't take away from the experience at all. My childhood memories are full of big green barriers with "pardon our pixie dust". The themed tarps are actually interesting to look at. Yes, Big Thunder Mountain is closed but it is far from the first major rehab in Magic Kingdom's history. I don't begin to understand the difference between this and previous periods of rehab... except that the internet didn't exist.

  12. Why go to the park when the best rides are closed, ie thunder mountain, and te place looks like a construction zone. When it's finished I'll go.

  13. I'm glad everything is being spruced up. I look forward to the new Fantasyland- especially the Seven Drawfs' mine ride. That is going to be cool!
