Come to the Mall, Don't Park at LEGOLAND: Ethical?

Image
Every time a person goes to a theme park, the parking seems to offer some quite a controversial issues... Is it right to pay $12-$15 just to leave our vehicle in a bare parking spot? Shouldn't the parks lower the price, since our car is actually not receiving any service worth that much? Yes, it is true, here in Florida most of the parking lots of the theme parks are under surveillance, but... is it really worth it?
A shopping mall near LEGOLAND Florida doesn't think so. Paying $12 to park at LEGOLAND is  too much, according to their billboards. Indeed, they have placed a huge advertisement just outside the park gates, saying " Why pay $12 to park at a theme park? - Free Park and Ride at Eagle Ridge Mall (Discounts at Select retailers)"
Here you are some photos of the billboard in question:

"Tutto Italia Ristorante" to Receive a Major Rehab

Next year, there will be a lot of major refurbishments for many rides, including Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Test Track. There will also be many refurbishments of other attractions and service venues, like the Tutto Italia Ristorante located in the Italian pavilion at Epcot.
Tutto Italia will be closed for refurbishment between January 8, 2012 and April 1, 2012.
Reliable rumors say that the restaurant will receive some important changes in the main dining area. Please, if you are planning on coming to Epcot and dining in the Italian pavilion, be aware of this, so that you can place a reservation in the other dining facility of the pavilion, the Via Napoli Pizzeria.

The Disney Look... to the Past! (Oct. 29-Nov.4)

It is Monday once again, therefore it is time to check out a new edition of our weekly feature - The Disney Look to the Past! Let's go back in time to see what happened years ago inside the Walt Disney Company:

This Week in Disney History: October 29 - November 4

Nov. 3, 1998 — Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin opens at Magic Kingdom Park
The Evil Emperor Zurg and his robotic army are stealing batteries from the galaxy’s toys and it’s up to Buzz Lightyear and Star Command’s junior Space Rangers (that’s you) to stop them. Climb into an XP-37 space cruiser, aim your laser cannon and fire away at the “Z” targets as you glide across the cosmos. It’s like a giant video game, and your ship is keeping score, so use the spin control to zero in on targets and mess with your co-pilot/opponent. You’ll need to be an ace shooter to reach “Galactic Hero” status at 999,999 points, unless you did your homework and fou…

LEGOLAND Florida Review by an OTPN Reader

LEGOLAND Florida is receiving a lot of feedback from its visitors, and it is great to see that many of them are very positive. We have heard also some negative comments, especially pointing out the fact that the price  to get into the park is too expensive and that the hours of operation are too limited.

This morning, we are pleased to feature a comment from one of our readers, who posted her own opinion on our official LEGOLAND Florida photo-gallery. She was very enthusiast to visit the park, no doubt on that (NOTE: we applied some minor changes to the punctuation of the comment to make it easier to read, but we have NOT changed or deleted any of our reader's phrases and/or opinions): _________________________________________________________________________
A++++Our expectations were blown out of this world! It was top notch all the way.
First and foremost, they got it right all around! For me, customer service is the most important aspect of any experience. This park obviously …

SeaWorld Orlando to Make Big Announcements Soon

The Orlando Sentinel just revealed yesterday that SeaWorld Orlando is finally ready to make some official announcements about the new "TurtleSphere 360" attraction, and the park may also gives us some hints about the much grander 2013 project, that will involve a new dark ride! Here you are the short article, courtesy of the Orlando Sentinel: _________________________________________________________________________
SeaWorld to Make Big Announcement in Two Weeks
SeaWorld Orlando is planning to make a significant announcement in two weeks.
Although the topic is under wraps — the marine park says only that it will "make waves" on the morning of Nov. 8 — SeaWorld appears likely to announce some new attractions currently in development.
... Among the expected additions: a new ride to replace the park's 24-year-old Penguin Encounter, a new sea-turtle movie experience, and a rainforest-themed trail at Discovery Cove with primate and otter habitats. (More here: S…

"The Seas" Pavilion Returning to its Normal Hours

In the last few weeks, there have been some technical problems in "The Seas with Nemo and Friends" pavilion at Epcot, that forced the area to open later than the rest of Future World. From now on, the pavilion will return to its normal operating hours:
_________________________________________________________________________
UPDATED: Epcot - Opening Hours at The Seas with Nemo & Friends

Although maintenance work continues around the aquarium at The Seas with Nemo & Friends, the pavilion has resumed its normal published operating schedule and will open at 9 a.m. for the remainder of the week. Because of changing conditions around and inside the aquarium, we may temporarily be moving some of the fish and other animals between the main tank and backstage holding areas. _________________________________________________________________________
Hopefully they will fix these problems soon. Stay tuned for any additional detail that may be released.

The Disney Look... to the Past! (October 22-28)

Image
And here we are again, at the beginning of a new workweek. Let's take a look together at the past of the Walt Disney Company (including the grand opening of one of the world's greatest theme parks, EPCOT Center!): _________________________________________________________________________
This Week in Disney History: October 22-28

Oct. 24, 1982 — EPCOT Center is dedicated at the Walt Disney World Resort When Walt Disney announced his “Florida Project” in 1965, an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow was a cornerstone of the original plans for what was planned to be called Disney World. Although this dream was ultimately deferred from the resort’s 1971 opening, Walt Disney Productions President Card Walker and a determined army of Imagineers were determined to realize Walt’s vision. Card announced plans for EPCOT Center on Oct. 1, 1978; groundbreaking took place Oct. 24, 1979, at 9 a.m. Approximately 25 million man hours and almost precisely three years to the min…

What's Coming to the Frontierland Shootin' Arcade?

Image
Just recently, we discussed about some enhancements coming soon to the Swiss Family Treehouse, which include a new, extended entrance and more. The Treehouse is not the only classic Magic Kingdom attraction that will soon receive new additions. Indeed, the Frontierland Shootin' Arcade may be another candidate attraction to receive some important enhancements.
The exhibit has been under an extensive refurbishment for months now, and the entire building was recently completely re-done, including the roof. Some rumors even say that the Shootin' Arcade will change its function after it reopens. While we do not claim to know any insider's information about the work that is taking place behind the tarps, we can rightly conclude that we'll see some concrete changes coming to the area. Why? Well, Imagineers are getting involved in the project.
Let's take a look at some pictures of the place:

Free Parking for Florida Residents after 6:00pm

For a very limited time, Universal Orlando will allow Florida Residents to park for free after 6 p.m. at the resort's huge parking structure (normally, any guest should pay $3.00 to park after 6.00 p.m.). Take a look: _________________________________________________________________________
Limited Time Offer: Free Parking for Florida Residents after 6:00pm
From November 1 through December 24, Florida residents receive Free Parking after 6:00pm at CityWalk! This limited time offer is available to Florida Residents only, and proof of residency is required (Valid Florida License or ID). _________________________________________________________________________
This is surely a positive thing, as many Florida Residents come often to CityWalk, and constantly having to pay $3.00 just to park for a few hours is not really making them want to come more often... Of course, some years ago, parking was free for any guest (Florida Residents or not) who came after 6.00 p.m., but unfortunately …

Changes Coming to The Swiss Family Treehouse

Image
As you may know, the Swiss Family Treehouse, one of the walk-through attractions of the Magic Kingdom, is currently down for a long refurbishment, which should be completed by November 18, 2011. This will not be just a normal refurbishment, though, as it will bring some nice changes to the area. let's take a look together:

The Tropicals' Final Performance Delayed Until Nov.

The Tropicals, an entertainment groups at Disney's Animal Kingdom that has gladdened many guests in the past with their music, will soon leave the park, due to the end of a contract they previously stipulated with the Walt Disney World Resort. Thei final performace was originally going to take place on October 29, 2011. A few days ago, though, it was announced that they would stay a bit longer performing at the park, so their last day at Disney's Animal Kingdom will be November 19, 2011: _________________________________________________________________________
Update: Tropicals Final Performance Extended to November 19, 2011

Universal Studios Update: 'U360' Globes Gone & More

Image
We have had a very busy beginning of the week, with the more than 300 pictures of LEGOLAND Florida that we posted for your enjoyment (by the way, you can start enjoying the photo-gallery by clicking here!), but this doesn't mean that we don't have any more photo-reports to share with you. Indeed, we have a nice Universal Studios Florida update to show you, so let's get started!:

Dragon Challenge To Never "Duel" Again

Image
A very sad news comes from Universal's Islands of Adventure. It looks like the famous Dragon Challenge attraction at the park will never be the same again.
If you have visited the park in the past, you may be familiar with this attraction (before mid-2010, it was called "Dueling Dragons"), which is a double inverted coaster that had the surprising feature of being one of the first (if not the only) dueling inverted coasters in the world. Recently, however, due to some reported accidents on the ride, the dueling feature (when two trains passed inches from each other, simulating a collision) was temporarily stopped, and the two trains were released separately.
A confirmation of this was given by one of our readers, who currently works at Universal Orlando, and wanted to share what he or she new (our reader wanted to remain anonymous):

Dragon Challenge not Dueling ...I work down in that area and it's because of what had happen  there twice [he or she was referring to the …

Fun Spot Parks Change Their Operating Hours

It looks like you're going to have even more time to play at both Fun Spot parks in Central Florida (there's one park in Orlando and one in Kissimmee)! In fact, they have announced on their official blog that the operating hours for the parks have been changed... for the better. Here you are additional info: _________________________________________________________________________
- More Hours of Fun! -
Fun Spot has updated operating hours. We are now opening at NOON (12 p.m.) Monday - Friday and still opening at 10am on Saturday and Sunday. _________________________________________________________________________
Now that they will be introducing their first-ever annual pass, they'll surely see more people coming through their "gates," given that the price is reasonable, of course. But they will release more information on this soon. Stay tuned!

As every week, here you are the latest edition of our weekly feature that takes a look into the past of the Walt Disney Company! Enjoy:

This Week in Disney History: October 15-21

Oct. 15, 1998 — “Fantasmic!” debuts at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
After premiering along the Rivers of America at Disneyland Park in 1992, this nighttime spectacular starring Disney heroes and villains made its way to the Walt Disney World Resort. Revamped for the purpose-built Hollywood Hills Theatre at the end of Sunset Boulevard, the show stars Mickey Mouse, who uses his imagination to conjure up exciting fantasies as classic Disney animation plays on super-sized water screens. LEGOLAND Florida - Grand Opening Photos/Video

Image
Before posting our massive photo update from Central Florida's newest theme park, LEGOLAND Florida, we would like to share with you some pictures and a video of the brief Grand Opening Ceremony that took place right before the park opened to the public. Unfortunately, we were not able to catch the first few minutes of the ceremony, but we did witness the last few minutes of it, which included a great confetti shower:

Now, the ceremony was very short, as you may have seen. The General Manager of the park was astonished to see all the guests who came in the park on the very first day. According to one local newspaper, there were about 4,000 people! That is quite a lot. It is great to see that many people appreciate the coming of a LEGOLAND theme park here in Central Florida.
