Universal Studios Update - A Tour of the Park

Today it will be a very important day at Universal Studios Florida. Indeed, starting today, August 18, 2011, "Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast" will be closed for good. The building that housed the attraction will be renovated, and a new ride based on the "Despicable me" franchise will open in its place, promising to be a much better experience (actually, anything would be better than Jimmy Neutron's ride....)

Today, we are going to take a general look around the park, and we'll see for the very last time Jimmy Neutron:

The main entrance gate was open:

The new popcorn cart (read more information about it HERE)

The Universal Studios Store still has the temporary sign:

Very crowded:

The Simpsons are coming:

A new band has been introduces into the park:

They are known as "The Sunset Sidemen":

Jimmy Neutron, NOW CLOSED (these pictures were taken a few days ago, therefore it was still open):

Inside the pre-show, it looked very bare:

the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit coaster:

A banner was missing on the side of the theater:

We had never noticed that temporary-looking stairway near the loop of HRRR:

The New York Library really needs to be re-painted:

What's behind those arches, you may ask. Well, here's what you can see - nothing -:

Also, the un-themed building on the side really ruins the environment. That's why Disney is still the best in theming:

The "treble clef" section of the coaster is really nice-looking:

For the first time, we were able to stop a bit and visit the "Finnegan's bar & Grill". It's really great inside!:

The theming is very nice:

Outside, not many know that there's a hidden climbing wall (but they charge a fee, so if you've missed it, don't worry. You saved some money):

This section of the handrails is still rusty. I wonder how long they will wait before continuing to work o them:

Some pictures of the San Francisco area:

This looks a lot like an old-style photo... Unfortunately, this is the view from one of the window of the Lombard's Seafood Grille restaurant:

Some more pictures, taken from the balcony of the Lombard's restaurant:

Can you spot Islands of Adventure's lighthouse?:

There it is:

These domes should be down during the day:

The Simpsons Ride:

Man in Black:

A panoramic picture of the World Expo area (click on it to view the full size photo):

Proceeding into Amity's harbor:

JAWS was, fortunately, open:

No comment:

Back to the colorful Simpsons Ride:

Nothing new to report from the former Hard Rock Cafe':

Sadly, it looks exactly like it did  years ago:

The Fast and Furious cars on display should be leaving soon:

The "Street Breakz" come back to Universal Studios every once in a while (to see a video of them in action,  CLICK HERE!)

Thank you very much for taking a tour of the park with us! Want to take a walk inside Islands of Adventure too? Then, just click here!

Thank you very much for viewing, and we hope you'll have a great rest of the day!

  1. I would class the black side of the building as themeing because the parks theme is a Movie Studio much like Hollywood. and that is how they have it at real movie studios because you never see it when filming so at the park it doesn't need to be themed as it is a park based on a movie studio. If it was at IOA on the other hand it would need to be themed.

  2. I think you're right, Cruiseshipfan, but don't you think that they should at least complete the theming? To me, it looks like the area is kind of incomplete. I hope you understand what I mean. (For example, Shrek's building is completely un-themed, but the surrounding doesn't have a different theming, so it doesn't look that bad).

  3. I noticed you mentioned that there wasn't anything interesting behind the arches of the New York Public Library, but a lot of people don't know there used to be a show on that "stage". Beetlejuice Dead in Concert used to run on the steps, and they used that area for the many show props, like a toliet plunger. Thought it was interesting to add. Loved the photos! Thank you! <3

  4. Thanks for sharing that, Colleen! I'll tell you the truth, I didn't know that! Thanks again for the interesting information.

  5. What's wrong with Jaws?! I think it's a great ride... sure it's cheesy as anything, but it's good fun!

    I just love Universal Studios.
    Keep up the great work.

  7. Wouldn't it be nice to go inside the old Hard Rock Cafe just to poke around? I'm sure it doesn't look spectacular or anything, but it'd be cool, I think. :)

  8. When will Universal come to their senses and get rid of Fear Factor...
They have so much potential to add something more fun and cooler!
The old Hard Rock Cafe is also a good place to put a new ride or something there as well!

    Great Update!

  9. Amy_Vocalist, try re-reading the report. I admit that I too thought the administrator was being negative about jaws on 1st quick browse-thru

an unfortunate / fortunate choice of wording maybe?

  10. I personally love JAWS. It is a must-do every time I visit the park, so I would never say anything against it... What was the phrase that made you think that I didn't enjoy the ride?

  11. She might have misread what you said so instead of seeing "fortunately" she saw "unfortunately". Just my guess.

    Great photo update!

  12. I would say the generic, ugly looking Rip Coaster jutting out in the middle of the beautiful forced perspective New York Street, ruins the theming a bit more than the side of the soundstage. I'll still never forgive Universal for that stupid, stupid decision!

  13. That staircase by the HRRR loop is nothing new. It's been there forever (I've been staring at it for about a year). It's there everyday and hasn't moved since it was placed there (whenever that was).

  14. Love your updates on the park. I recently came back from Orlando and I was just wondering where the Hard Rock cafe used to be situated? As i've always wanted to know!

  15. @Chris: Thank you for the comment! The old Hard Rock Cafe' is situated just behind "Woody Woodpecker's Nuthouse Coaster," the family coaster in the KidZone of the park. Very sad to see it in this state. Hope you enjoyed your vacation!

  17. I just noticed that when you took the picture of the Jimmy Neutron building, they already painted over the picture of Arnold. How weird.
