Brazilian Pavilion to Be Added to World Showcase?

After reading the title of this post, many of you will have already thought "Yes, of course...."
Well, I am as skeptic as you are, since World Showcase has not received a new pavilion in more than two decades (the last pavilion that was added, Norway, joined World Showcase in 1988... Can you believe that?).
Anyway, it looks like this time it MAY be the right time to add something.

According to a Brazilian newspaper article, translated by the Epcot Encyclopedia web site, Brazil is going to add their own pavilion at Epcot. That is one of the greatest honors a country can receive, and it looks like Brazil is willing to pay for it, since they say that "the government forecast is for a big comeback in tourism," with the addition of this new pavilion at Epcot. So, they think that adding the pavilion will help "advertise their beautiful country. I would also add that, since we have a lot of Brazilian guests in the parks here in Florida, it will also make them feel more like "at home", right?

With all that being said, nothing about this project has been officially announced, so, even though the Brazilian newspaper may be very reliable, we don't know what the real plans that Disney has in mind, therefore consider this as a mere rumor. At least, for now.

We would like to thank a lot Raphael Figueiredo for sharing with us the news!

  2. Please let this be true! But, really, please, only if it contains a ride. If its just shops and restaurants, they shouldn't bother. What they should do is announce Brazil (and a ride) along with adding the Ratatouille ride to the France pavilion. Then, they can say they are "Doubling the number of rides" at World Showcase."

  3. Forgive me for not having a sense of humor and not laughing at your joke about a Ratatouille ride in the France pavilion. If Disney adds one more "character" franchise attraction to World Showcase, I will have lost hope in the well-being of Epcot forever. Because I'm finally regaining hope in Disney's ability to improve Epcot. Givenchy's first store in the U.S., Via Napoli, digitally remastering Impressions de France...things are finally going the RIGHT WAY...Let's not go backwards...

  4. I suppose if you are clueless enough to believe that a Givenchy store and a digital version of a travel channel movie drives attendance, then you are right. However, if you believe that attractions (particularly family attractions) drive attendance, then you are wrong. I am going to go with the latter.

  5. I'm not talking about "driving attendance" I'm talking about creating an authentic pavilion. Unless Rataouille is considered a candidate for authentically representing the country of France...Epcot is popular enough. They've installed two character franchises and a number of relevant thrill rides...Add the garden and food and wine festivals and you have a popular park. Does it really need something else to draw in crowds? Epcot is a world's fair in dire need of restoration. Anyone who understands what the park is about can clearly see that.

  6. Like I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm surprised they haven't put in Russia - I think that would be interesting.

  7. Brazil would be great!! I think it would be a nice addition and since they're already getting the World Cup and the Olympics, maybe they would invest($) in a pavilion.

They could take it in a few different directions: Samba style, Amazon Jungle, Rio De Janeiro, I mean, think of the possibilities... Plus (and this is just me) I wouldn't mind seeing a place were beautiful women from Brazil would gather!

Besides on my book "almost" all new additions to theme parks are good news.

  8. Brazil can go between England and Canada, replacing the underutilized Millennium Village. What about an omnimover dark ride ("If You Had Wings" style) through the country, a big restaurant (if you've ever been to a Brazilian restaurant, you know what I mean), and a couple small shops.

Russia can go between China and Germany with a classic "Russian Mountain" rollercoaster ride, a Vodka bar, a decent-sized counter-service restaurant, and the requisite shops.

And hurry up and add a ride to Japan, already!
