The official Disney Parks Blog has posted a very interesting videos that shows the new Audio-Animatronic figure of Ariel, also known as the Little Mermaid. Take a look:

Walt Disney Imagineers Get Creative with Ariel's Hair at Disney California Adventure Park

We are just a couple of months away from the official opening of The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure park. Walt Disney Imagineers are working hard to make sure you feel transported into Ariel’s world through every detail – the water, the fish, the hair….yes, the hair! Ariel’s hair posed a particular challenge for Imagineers, one they hadn’t encountered before – how do you make hair that’s technically out of the water look like it’s floating underwater? Take a look at their progress.

Nice, surely one of the most advanced Audio-Animatronics, but I think that the Ursula Audio-Animatronic looks even better! What do you think?

  3. I agree it looks cheap to me as well. She’s shiny, and I don’t want to hear “she’s underwater so it doesn’t matter,” because if that was the intent the coral behind her should be shiny and Ursula should have been shiny too. Her movement where she’s obviously attached to the coral looks like the now Ariel mermaid in it’s a small world, here hair in this scene also makes here look like a member of the music group The B-52’s. What a big disappointment.

  4. Oops. That should be "her hair makes her look like a member of the music group B-52's." I watched the video again and when I see her and think of her as one of the lead female singers of the B-52's it makes me crack up. Try it.

  5. everybody is a critic. Her B-52 hair is from the Under the Sea scene where it goes up like that. What do you want?

  6. I'm fully aware her hair is taken from the movie when her action was spinning; I didn't notice the figures action to was spinning. It is a strange choice given her hair does not match her animation. Being a solid silicone sculpt makes hair look like a B-52's wig. Can you imagine what this will look like if the hair is animated to bob up and down? It will be hilarious.
