The Disney Look... to the past! (Jan. 29 - Feb. 4)

As every week, here you are an article that lists all the important events that have made history in the Disney Parks, attractions, movies and much more!! This week, we'll read about the release of a classic Disney movie and  the best Disney fireworks show on Earth (you know which one is this!).
Read about all of this and much more: ___________________________________________________ This Week in Disney History: Jan. 29 - Feb. 4

Jan. 29, 1959 - Walt Disney Pictures releases "Sleeping Beauty" Walt Disney's adaptation of the story of Princess Aurora (nee Briar Rose), her betrothed Prince Phillip, the wicked Maleficent and an untimely run-in with a spinning wheel spent more than eight years in development and production. Drawing from the 17th century fairy tale by French author Charles Perrault, the Tchaikovsky ballet and the Brothers Grimm retelling of the story, "Sleeping Beauty" was not initially an enormous box office success, but has since grown to beco…

The new "Compose your own Figment" game - VIDEO

As we reported earlier this morning, with our latest EPCOT update (PART 1 | PART 2), a new game has been introduced at ImageWorks (the post-show of "Journey Into Imagination with Figment). It consists in creating your own version of one of the nicest Disney characters ever, that made this pavilion famous: FIGMENT! You have to create him using different parts of the body that at the end can create a whole new character... or a monster! Here you are a short video of this new game, called "Compose your own Figment":

So, if I am not mistaken, before this game (when Kodak was in charge of the pavilion), you could take a picture of yourself, edit it and then e-mail it to you. This time, you can't take any pictures, but you can send your version of Figment at home (I did, but I'm still waiting to receive the e-mail, since yesterday...). In a few words, I'm extra-happy to see Figment used more in the pavilion, but at the same time, this new game may lack repeatabilit…

Epcot update - Whirlygigs, Imagination news (PART 1)

Welcome, welcome, welcome to a great EPCOT update! This week we've got so many news that we had to divide this update into two parts! It's rare for our updates to be divided in two parts (unless it's a Magic Kingdom update, where there's always a lot of new stuff). Let's start right away, without losing any second!
It was a magnificent day here, at EPCOT!:

Epcot update - Whirlygigs, Imagination news (PART 2)

Hi, and welcome to part 2 of this new EPCOT update!
Let's continue, shall we?
Duffy is still strong here at Epcot (he's not popular anymore at DCA):

The Carousel of Progress - VIDEO

If you have ever had the great opportunity of visiting the magic kingdom here in Orlando, Florida, you know that there are many original attractions that have been open since the park's first years. One of these is "The carousel of Progress", which has been open since 1975, and has been performing since then. It was first moved from the 1964 New York's World Fair to Disneyland in California. Then, in 1973 it closed at Disneyland and was moved to the Magic Kingdom, where it still stands today.
Here you are a complete ride-through video of this great show, divided in two parts:
- PART 1 -

- PART 2 -

So, what do you think about it? I personally love it, but after a while, i do think that it gets a bit repetitive. I would like them to renew the last scene, as it looks mostly contemporary, rather than futuristic. Also, I would love to see some small additions to the loading and unloading scenes (something minor, of course, but more than just the logo of the attraction. After a…

Site News

Hello, OTPN readers! We have done some new improvements to the site lately, so we wanted to let you know what's new and what's next! Here you are an overview of what has changed:
1) TOOLBAR REMOVED As you know, OTPN had a nice-looking toolbar at the bottom of the site. It had many features, and it added some 'color' to the site. After some feedback, though, we noticed that it wasn't very used by our guests, and we noticed that many of its features were already present on our sidebar. Therefore we decided to get rid of it.
2) SITE NAME CHANGE Did you notice that we changed the name of the site? Yes, it's a very subtle, but important news. It's not called anymore Orlando Theme ParkS News, but Orlando Theme Park News.
3) OPEN LINKS IN A SEPARATE WINDOW Now you don't have to right-click each page to visit a link that we post in our updates! You just have to click on the link, and it will automatically open in a new window, while you will still be able to read thr…

The Blue Sky Cellar reopens at DCA

The Blue Sky Cellar exhibit has reopened just yesterday at the Disneyland resort in California. It shows all of the projects that will be done at Disney's California Adventure.... and one that will be done at the Magic Kingdom too (The Little Mermaid). Here you are some more info about the Cellar: _______________________________________

Blue sky ideas turning into realities
On Jan. 27, the Walt Disney Imagineering Blue Sky Cellar debuted a new show showcasing the transformations already underway at Disney California Adventure Park. Imagineers have designed a refresh of the cellar that gives guests a chance to see the process behind the development of The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel's Undersea Adventure. Walt Disney Imagineering Show Designer Alex G. served as the creative lead for this Blue Sky Cellar update, but he was also one of the early designers of The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel's Undersea Adventure. Among the sketches and concept artwork on display, a series of drawings …

Gatorland breaks ground for a one-of-a-kind zip-line

Gatorland is a fascinating theme park. It's very underrated, as it is one of Florida's original attractions, one of the few post-Disney theme parks that is still standing. And, it's even expanding its offerings this year! They will open a new zip-line that will be very... unique!! Read some info from Gatorland: _______________________________________ Gatorland Reaches New HeightsTheme park opens Orlando’s Wildest Zip line Orlando, Florida: Gatorland is soaring to new heights in Central Florida as the theme park opens the world’s first zip line to race above giant alligators and crocodiles in the all new Eco Zip Line at Gatorland opening in Summer of 2011.

OOTL: The memories begin at Disneyland too

Yes, even though Walt Disney World has introduced the show a week in advance, Disneyland is ready to "Let the Memories begin" too! Here you are some info about their version of the "The Magic, the Memories and YOU!" show, that takes place in front of their "It's a Small World" facade, which is bigger than their castle. From the Disney Parks Blog:
New Projection Show Turns ‘Small World’ Into a Big Canvas, for ‘The Magic, the Memories and You’
I’m going to tell you about a new show at Disneyland park that takes the fa├žade of “it’s a small world” and does some amazing things. It turns it into an animated, etch-a-sketch coloring pad; it coaxes the singing dolls from inside the attraction to appear outside in the show; and it weaves hundreds of guest photos into a giant, surprise mosaic.

Even after I tell you about it, and we share a video sneak-peek of tonight’s first show, I must admit the real thing is so much better. If you can get here, quit reading now a…

The Disney Dream takes its maiden voyage!

With a dash of Disney magic and a surprising twist, a helicopter hoisted a 16-foot “champagne bottle” across the bow of the Disney Dream during a christening ceremony this morning officially welcoming the newest ship to the Disney Cruise Line family.
Serving the traditional role of godmother for the Disney Dream christening was Jennifer Hudson, the Academy Award and Grammy Award winner whose own dreams of stardom began when she was a performer on the Disney Wonder ship in 2003.
Hudson was joined onstage by Disney CEO Bob Iger and Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs, as the enormous “champagne bottle” filled with dreams of adventure, romance and fun was lifted into the air and broken across the bow of the 130,000-ton ship.

Dave and Buster's construction (JAN. 27)

The new Dave & Buster's building is really "reaching for the sky"!! It's going to be a massive, two-story restaurant.
Here you are some new pictures of the construction:

Tigger's Bouncy Place reopens - VIDEO

Here you are an HD video of "Tigger's Bouncy Place", which has finally reopened. You can notice that the WDIs (Walt Disney Imagineers) have worked on the pads, and they've also introduced a nice little addition that previously didn't work... Check it out here:

So, what do you think? Does it look safer now? Keep in mind that whenever it rains, the area is promptly closed for safety, so no worries about lightnings being attracted by the metallic springs underneath the pads, but what about children falling down when jumping from a pad to another one?

OOTL: Disneyland's Village Haus reopens

If you are a bit familiar with the Disneyland resort in California, you know that the Disneyland Park has got a copy of the "Pinocchio's Village Haus". Their version went under a fairly long refurbishemnt, and just reopened, with some new small additions and a new menu. Take a look: _______________________________________

Splash Mountain's NEW lap bars pictures!

Thanks to one of our readers, Ben G. (that we thank a lot!!), we have some pictures of the new lap bars that have been installed into Splash Mountain's ride vehicles:

The Disney Dream's interior staterooms

The newest Disney ship, the Disney Dream is very special. It has huge playing areas for children, ever-changing portraits in the restaurants, interactive games throughout the ship, theme park-like shows and more.... But, there's something that's even more unique: interior staterooms.... with an ocean view!! Here you are more information about this out-of-the-ordinary feature, from the Disney Parks Blog:

How Do We Give Every Disney Dream Guest an Ocean View? It’s Magic!
Starting today, we’re counting down to Wednesday’s maiden voyage of our newest ship, the Disney Dream, with daily previews of some of the great amenities and dazzling innovations that await Disney Cruise Line guests. First up is a great example of what Walt Disney called “plussing” – taking a great idea and making it better. When designing the 1,250 staterooms aboard the ship, the creative minds of Walt Disney Imagineering decided early on that every guest should have an ocean view. The challenge was how to do that w…

Yes, thanks to a news from our friend Screamscape, we found out that the new Busch Gardens Tampa Blog has just debuted!

The Disney Look... to the past! (Jan.22-28)

Here you are this week's look... to the DISNEY past!

This Week in Disney History: Jan. 22-28

Jan. 26, 2003 - "Jimmy Kimmel Live" debuts on ABC Former radio host turned television personality Jimmy Kimmel debuted his own nighttime talk show, "Jimmy Kimmel Live," on ABC in 2003. His first guests were actor George Clooney and the band Coldplay, who played a mini concert outside the studio on Hollywood Blvd. In addition to celebrity interviews, the show has featured comedy pieces from Kimmel's cousin Sal Iacono, plus red carpet reports from security guard "Uncle Frank" Potenza and parking attendant Guillermo Rodriguez.

Spaceship Earth - ON RIDE VIDEO!

We finally made it!! After trying many times (and after wasting some videos due to the overwhelming blurriness of the images) we finally took a pretty good on-ride video of the great Spaceship Earth! Here it is:

Yeah, we know. Some parts are still a bit blurry, but at least most of it is not bad, what do you think?

Cheetah Hunt update - Theming is on the way

A great, new Cheetah Hunt update has been posted on BGTNation. Here you are just a spoiler, that will let you understand why we said that the theming is actually coming:
You see? It's beginning to look great!! That wall looks like it has been around for ages, even though it has been added some weeks ago! Great job, Busch Gardens! That's what we like to see. That's what makes Theme Park a different world. That's what makes theme ten steps higher than Amusement Parks. Theming! Remember to head to BGTNation for more pictures of Cheetah Hunt!!
So, now are you looking forward to see this completed? I personally can't wait! Busch Gardens is really stepping up on its rides! Now we only need three or four dark rides, and it will be one of the best theme parks ever!! What do you think?
Once again, thanks to our friends at BGTNation for the link and the pictures!

Universal Studios update - It's once again empty

Well, we had a great day at Universal Studios Florida last week. It was great to be almost alone in the middle of the park. Why alone? Well, the holidays are gone (YES!), it was raining, and the neighbor (IOA) was gathering more crowds (of course), so this left US a little bit emptier than usual (after June 2010):

Small updates about Epcot's entertainment

Just a couple of reminders about two Epcot entertainment shows, in China and INNOVENTIONS WEST:
Effective SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2011 two shows will close at Epcot:

1) DRAGON LEGEND ACROBATS (showtimes: 3:05PM 4:15PM 5:15PM 6:15PM 7:15PM) Description: Dragon Legend Acrobats, a 20-minute live show for Guests of all ages where young Chinese acrobats perform gravity-defying feats, is in the China Pavilion at Epcot theme park. Demonstrating the age-old art form of Chinese acrobatics, the young performers that make up Dragon Legend Acrobats are sure to amaze everyone in your family with their astounding feats of strength, endurance, flexibility and balance. The China Dragon Acrobats feature young performers—ages 10 to 18 years—from the Pu Yang Academy…

Tiki Room to remain closed until further notice

As you know, since the "Enchanted Tiki Room - Under New Management" caught on fire some weeks ago, the show remained closed, while the times guide still featured it open, therefore confusing guests that didn't know what happened. Starting this week, times guide have all been updated, and they show the Enchanted Tiki Room as "under refurbishment":

It's still unclear whether the show will receive a completely new show (therefore making many fan of the original attraction happy) or if they will just re-build the Audio-Animatronic figures that have supposedly been burned down or ruined by the water. Also, a specific reopening date for the attraction has not been released yet.
In case there will be any news on the matter, we will let you know. Keep checking out OTPN for  updates.

Gwazi Testing its new trains

Here you are the official video of Busch Gardens showing the new Gwazi trains testing:

Looking forward to see people on it, to see if the overall coaster experience has actually changed!

Islands of Adventure - A look around the park

We've got a pretty nice update today, with some pictures around the park in general, including some up-close photos of the burned part of Dudley's facade! Read more:
It was rainy (but we needed rain a lot, so no complaints on this) and a bit cool (but not bad), so the park was not busy at all. You will have a pretty big proof of this later on, during the update. It looked very strange without sunlight, as in Florida there are more than 360 days of sun (with occasional, short rains):

Advisory #1 - Spirit of Aloha show cancelled

An Advisory for today:
8:00pm Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show Cancelled for 1/22/2011 Due to expected inclement weather conditions, the 8:00pm Disney's Spirit of Aloha dinner show at Disney's Polynesian Resort for today, Saturday, January 22, 2011 has been cancelled.

News on Fun Spot's Galaxy Spin

As we said many times, Fun Spot is receiving a major new ride this year, the Galaxy Spin (previously located in Cypress Gardens, now Legoland Florida resort). Well, now we know for sure WHERE it will be located!: ___________________________________
Our Kissimmee park, Fun Spot USA,  has been extremely busy with many new construction projects. Fun Spot is hoping to reveal the new SkyCoaster building in the next few weeks. Our new "Screamin Eagle" should be delivered in the upcoming weeks as well. There has been much speculation on where the Galaxy Spin will go. Once construction is complete on the new indoor building the ticket booth will be moved along with offices and the old building will be removed to make way for the roller coaster. This portion of the project is still several months away.
Future home of the Galaxy Spin:

Lap bars added to Splash Mountain

Screamscape has finally confirmed a rumor that has been around for quite a bit: that Splash Mountain was going to receive lap bars. And, as of yesterday, it did. Read this article, courtesy of Screamscape: ______________________________________
The rumors are 100% true... Splash Mountain is currently adding a large single lap bar to each and every row on the logs. As outraged as I am about the very concept of this, unfortunately we as guests, have only ourselves to blame. Apparently there are a large number of people out there who think it’s funny/ cool / xtreme to either stand-up during portions of the ride, combined with an equal number of stupid tourists who think that at the first time of a ride stoppage, they are free to jump out of the log and go wandering about inside the mountain. Then the real fun begins as CMs are sent out to search every nook and cranny inside the gigantic structure for these lost guests before they can turn the ride back on. (So maybe we should all …

Legoland Florida's overview - VIDEO

Would you like to have a sneak-peek of the rides that are coming to Legoland? Here you are their official video that shows the ride that are coming to Legoland Florida:

I can't wait to see more construction pictures, and especially, I can't wait to see the park open!!!
See you next fall, Legoland Florida!!

Epcot update - Flowers everywhere!! (PART 1)

Thousands of wonderful flowers have been freshly planted around the already amazing-looking small hills and green land that encompasses Epcot's pavilions. The park looks great, and the Flower & Garden Festival is more than a month away!! That's one of the many reasons why I (and a lot of people that I know) love EPCOT.
Let's see what Walt Disney World's gardeners have done:

Gwazi at Busch Gardens Tampa has received brand-new trains, as we reported some weeks ago. Now, thanks to our friends over at BGTNation, we have some great pictures of the new, themed trains!! Thanks again to our friends at for the great update!!

Little Mermaid dark ride video

A fantastic, new video has been uploaded on the Disney Parks Blog. It shows a lot of the props and Audio-Animatronics that will be used in both versions of the "Journey of the Little Mermaid" dark ride! Take a look behind-the-scenes (from the Disney Parks Blog):

I am really looking forward to see this! It looks really amazing, a true masterpiece! What do you think??

Star Tours - The Adventures Continue opens MAY 2011

As we announced some weeks ago, the new Star Tours attraction will open on May 2011. From the official Disney Parks Blog:

Meg announced that the 3-D attraction will make its galactic debut May 20, 2011.

As you’ve read in past posts from Walt Disney Imagineering’s Tom Fitzgerald, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue will feature new droids, a new Starspeeder, new destinations and even a new pilot. So, as we celebrate the “Dream” aboard the sea we also are looking skyward to a “galaxy far, far away” in 2011. Stay tuned for future announcements about the Grand Opening of Star Tours at Disneyland Park in California.

Highest-resolution NEW FANTASYLAND map

If you're like me and want to really see every single detail of this new Fantasyland Expansion, now you have your chance! Here you are a huge concept art for you to see (CLICK ON IT):

Nice, isn't it? In my opinion this New Fantasyland will be a hit. I've read some of the comments in our previous update, and strangely I've notice that some of you are not happy, even if they decided to put another huge new ride (before the mine ride was brought up, there should have been a meet-an-greet in that same spot).  In my opinion they did a fantastic job redesigning some of the areas of the project. I can understand that some of you are afraid that the Dumbo area will look as cheap as DCA, but I am sure it won't. Just because it's themed on a circus, it doesn't mean it's going to be only un-themed tents... They will look great, and the area in general will have A LOT of interactive elements to play with.
About the Seven Dwarfs Mine ride, I think it's going to be g…

Hello!! After the exciting news about the new Fantasyland that we received yesterday, here we are with more news on the new pre-show of Wishes, "The Magic, The Memories and You!": ___________________________________

In the nighttime spectacle, photos of guests captured that very day in the park will be projected larger-than-life among the spires and turrets of Cinderella Castle.  In similar fashion, guest images will be projected onto “it’s a small world” on select nights at Disneyland Park in California, beginning Jan. 27.
The ten-minute experience – called “The Magic, The Memories, and You!” – will dazzle park guests on both …

FINALLY!! News on Fantasyland Forest released!

Great news!! finally, new information about the new Fantasyland have been released by the Disney Parks Blog!!! Read it all here, from the official Disney Parks Blog:

More attractions after Legoland is completed?

The Orlando Sentinel shares with us some news about what could come to Central Florida after Legoland is open. There were already a lot of rumors regarding a water park and a Madame Tussaud's museum, and this very interesting article seem to almost confirm part of these rumors. From the Orlando Sentinel: _____________________________________
