New doors for parking trams

Just two days ago, while visiting Disney's Animal Kingdom, i noticed that there was a different kind of tram in the parking lot. It actually had... doors, like the ones they are currently using at Disneyland resort in California!

Here you are the pictures, that will make everything clear:

This is the NORMAL parking tram, as seen in any Disney Park in Florida:

And this is what all of them may look like, very soon:

These new doors certainly look very good. I think that, aesthetically speaking, they are really nice.
But, what about the loading and unloading time, you may ask. Well, they're not an issue, you can be sure about that. The doors are indeed NOT automatic, so it means that you can open and close them when you want, making it easier for the driver, that doesn't have to check every single row.
They can be opened during the "ride", though, and this may be an issue if there are small children, but they are still required to stay on the INSIDE of the tram.

So, to conclude, they're a welcomed addition. But, what do you think about it?

  1. Kids already sit on the inside, and adults are usually smart enough to not jump off a moving tram so I'm guessing this was a financial/safety decision, meaning the cost of adding the doors is probably less than savings from reduced insurance premiums. As long as they don't add lap bars to Splash Mountain, I'll let it slide! ;-)

  2. I'm sorry to tell you that lap bars will eventually be added to Splash Mountain... I saw it on WDWMagic.

  3. I think it will actually add to the load-in time becuase the CM will have to make sure that the passengers in each row have closed the doors properly.

Honestly, I think there is something very wrong when people need these doors for a five minute ride on a slow-moving tram. People in the 60s certainly understood the simple process, but in the internet age we need doors and lap bars for every single moving vehicle?? It's not the matterhorn, it's the parking tram for Pete's sake!

  4. I don't believe there are any plans to add lap bars to Splash Mountain. That's been a rumor for years. They just did a major refurb and there are no lap bars. If they planned to add them, they would've during the refurb.

  5. Splash Mountain already has new flumes with lap bars... they have been cycling them slowly after hours until they make the full switch.
