Let the memories begin?

Yes, that's the name of WDW's newest celebration that will begin January 2011.
What's the question mark for, you may ask. Well, it represent the doubt of the successfulness of this week's "incredible' announcement.... which was not really that great.

Here's what the Orlando Sentinel wrote:

Disney followers wanted more scoop from announcements

Disney Parks’ announcements were met with yawns, barbs and isolated enthusiasm on the Internet on Thursday. The company’s news conference, available through live streaming, revealed details about  a new marketing campaign (“Let the Memories Begin”) and an opportunity to have families’ pictures projected onto the spires of Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom. It also rehashed news regarding the Disney Cruise Line and the re-imagined Star Tours ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The public may have been anticipating bigger developments after the Disney Parks Blog announced the event Wednesday. It said there would be “exciting plans” and an announcement of “good stuff” for Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Imaginations went wild in the reader comments as folks dreamed of a fifth theme park in Orlando, a Marvel park in Paris, a Disney park in Texas, a villains park somewhere, a re-opened Pleasure Island, a new country represented at Epcot and guesses involving New York City, where the announcement was taking place.

As the 45-minute presentation wore on, Twitter users grew increasingly restless, taking shots at families with children, host Tom Bergeron, guest Michael J. Fox, singer Montego Glover and the song “Let the Memories Begin.” Although some commenters were happy with the new commercials, there was general dismay at the lack of details, particularly regarding the Fantasyland expansion at Magic Kingdom or the 40th anniversary of Walt Disney World next year. So, was this the HUGE announcement we were waiting for? Certainly not.

  1. So so so disappointed. When I visit MK I dont want to take a picture in front of the castle and have other strangers photos in the backround. It's just not something to get excited about.

  2. I agree with you, Grant. They hyped up this announcement and it turned out to be anti-climactic. It's a win/win situation for Disney, it's not a costly endeavour and they can do whatever they want with your photos/videos once you waive your rights--including selling them to a 3rd party. They're making money off of peoples' photos! I think it's unsavory.

But the upside to this is that it sounds like it's a night time show, so you won't have to look at the Botz family from Pig's Knuckle, Arkansas all night--just briefly.
