Even more bad news.....

Bad news never come alone. There's a new piece of information that may hurt many of you that would like to ride Universal Studios' newest rollercoaster "Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit".
The ride has been closed "indefinitely" (it doesn't mean that it will be destroyed or abandoned, but it means it will take much longer to fix it). Indeed, the timeline to fix the ride has been extended.

Here's the sad news from the Orlando Sentinel:

Universal's Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster closed indefinitely
Reason for last week's shutdown of the Universal Studios ride is still a mystery.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, the year-old roller coaster at Universal Studios that shut down last week for repairs, will remain closed longer than initially expected.

Universal Orlando said Monday it decided to perform annual maintenance now that the thrill ride is already offline. "We added annual maintenance to the work schedule for efficiency," spokesman Tom Schroder said. "The ride has been operating for about a year and had a busy summer season. For us, it makes sense to take advantage of the fact that it is already closed for maintenance and perform additional annual maintenance."

Just why Rockit closed in the first place remains a mystery. Earlier this month, the German company that built it issued an alert warning that stress testing of its "X-Car" ride vehicles had found that the coupling bars holding the trains together might not be "fatigue endurable." Coaster manufacturer Maurer Sohne instructed clients to immediately shut down any rides using X-Cars for further safety testing.

Universal dismissed the Sept. 2 bulletin, saying any issues it raised would have been resolved already.

I have no words. I mean, yes, it's good that they try to use their time in the best way they can by adding to the timeline also the ride's yearly maintenance, but, please FIX IT soon!!!
Once they'll fix the X-cars' issues, the other problems are considered "minor", and the ride can reopen...

Who's going on vacation to Orlando in this period? Is anyone sad about this, or you don't care a lot about it?
By the way, thanks a lot to Screamscape for the news!

  2. I'm going on my first trip to Florida in 24 days. I've waited almost ten years to make it there and something like this happens. This seems to be one of the most exciting ride the park has to offer and I was really looking forward to riding it. I have to say this news really ruined my day.

  3. Wow. This stinks and I feel badly for people who are going to Universal soon. It seems like this coaster has been nothing but trouble from the very start.

Describing a ride as being closed "indefinitely" doesn't sound too positive. :(

  7. Agree with Jen. I have the same impression. (from the distance). I still remember when I wanted to go and ride it but it woulnd't open. So I didn't make the trip.

They also had problems with Battle Star Gallactica or still do. I don't know maybe they should have gone with B&M. I'm just saying, look at that Hulk they don't even paint it and still runs...

  8. I got to "not ride it" on my last trip to Universal. I was sooo close I could actually touch the car. I was on the platform to load - there was only 1 group in front of us when the ride broke down. Hope I have better luck next time I go ...... in 2011.
